Lucas Torreira reveals there is NO chance he stays at Arsenal next season

Lucas Torreira reveals there is NO chance he stays at Arsenal next season as he works on a permanent switch away… with the Uruguayan midfielder revealing he has ‘suffered a lot’ for his experience in the Premier League

  • Lucas Torreira spent last season in Italy on loan in Florence with Fiorentina
  • He is out of favour at Arsenal and has no plans to see out the rest of his contract
  • Fiorentina are not seeking a permanent deal but Torreira is targeting a new move
  • Both Italy and Spain are seen as preferable landing spots for the midfielder

Lucas Torreira has revealed his days in an Arsenal shirt are over and he has no plan to see out the remaining year of his contract in north London.

The Uruguayan midfielder spent last season on loan in Italy with Fiorentina and while they are not seeking a permanent deal, Torreira has explained that his agent is negotiating his exit from Arsenal with ‘many teams’.

Torreira elevated his stock across 35 appearances for Fiorentina last season and it is Italy, or Spain where he previously spent time on loan with Atletico Madrid, where he is keen to move to next.

Arteta has sent Torreira out on loan and has found no use for him

‘We are having conversations with many teams, but my representative is in charge of that, today I am enjoying my vacation,’ Torreira told El Telegrafo.

‘It was a long year with a lot of competition, and it was exhausting; I want to relax with my family. What I wanted was to stay at Fiorentina, but it didn’t happen for various reasons, so we’ll look for a new direction.’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is continuing to rebuild the Gunners in his image and Torreira does not feature in his plans moving forward, despite being under contract for 2022-23.

Asked if there was even an olive branch extended to him, Torreira dismissed any possibility that he suits up for Arsenal again.

‘Chances? None,’ he added.

‘From the beginning, they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.’

Arsenal are believed to be looking for a fee close to £13m for Torreira, who joined the club in 2018 from Sampdoria.

The 26-year-old added that he believes a return to Boca Juniors is ‘very difficult’ but said unequivocally that he will not play for Arsenal again.

Arteta has already added Brazilian starlet Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus completed a medical on Tuesday and he is expected to be the next arrival in a £45m deal.
