Everton fans hit out at owner Farhad Moshiri as Richarlison joins Tottenham

‘Farhad Moshiri, you will never be forgiven for allowing this to happen’: Furious Everton fans slam the club’s owner for selling Richarlison to Tottenham for £60m and insist it is ‘time for the board to go’ amid dire financial problems

  • Richarlison’s £60million move to Tottenham was confirmed on Friday morning
  • Everton decided to let him go as they currently have major financial problems
  • Everton fans are not happy that Richarlison has been allowed to leave the club
  • They have hit out at owner Farhad Moshiri for putting the club in this position

Everton fans have reacted angrily to the club selling Richarlison to Premier League rivals Tottenham.

The £60million transfer was confirmed on Friday morning, and came as little surprise given the Toffees’ current financial issues. The club reported an annual loss of £121m back in March, and they have a three-year deficit of over £300m, meaning it was always likely that they would need to sell players this summer.

This has not eased the pain for supporters, though, who have placed the blame for Richarlison’s departure squarely at the feet of owner Farhad Moshiri.

‘Thankyou, @richarlison97. But, Farhad Moshiri, you will never be forgiven for allowing this to happen,’ one fan posted on Twitter.

‘Thanks for everything @richarlison97! Time for the board to go time and time again they continue to let the fans down,’ another supporter added.

Another fan delivered a simple message as news of Richarlison’s exit filtered through: ‘Now get the board out.’

Supporters have voiced their frustration at decisions made by the club’s hierarchy in recent months, with some confronting chairman Bill Kenwright in January after the team’s home defeat against Aston Villa.

Despite going 27 years without a trophy, Kenwright insisted that the club have ‘had some good times’ during that period, but his comments did not go down well, and he was mocked once again by one fan on Twitter on Friday.

‘Yet another top player and fan favourite sold to save Everton from financial ruin. Cheers “good times” Kenwright & Moshiri, great work as ever.

‘Four years of giving his all, thanks @richarlison97, you delivered on your promises. If only those in charge would do the same…’ they wrote.

Richarlison finished as Everton’s top scorer last season with 10 league goals, and he stepped up in the final weeks of the campaign.

The Brazilian forward netted important goals against Chelsea and Crystal Palace as Everton secured their Premier League status for another season with just one game to spare.

He has now moved on, though, and one supporter is very concerned about how the squad is shaping up without Richarlison.

‘We officially have no one,’ they claimed on social media.
