Jurgen Klopp SENT OFF after raging at officials

Jurgen Klopp concedes his red card was ‘probably deserved’ after he chased linesman down the touchline and berated officials… but Liverpool boss declares Bernardo Silva’s challenge on Mohamed Salah the ‘clearest foul’ he’s EVER seen

  • Jurgen Klopp lost his cool with the officials after deeming the challenge a foul
  • Mohamed Salah’s goal in the second half gave Liverpool a crucial three points

Jurgen Klopp admitted that his red card against Manchester City was ‘deserved’ but that the tackle on Mohamed Salah was a ‘clear’ foul that had to be awarded.

The Liverpool manager charged down the touchline and berated the officials after deeming Salah to have been fouled late on in the second half.

In a highly fraught and tense game, Taylor adjuged Klopp to have overstepped the mark and sent him to the stands following his berating of the referee and his team.

Speaking after the game, Klopp told Sky Sports: ‘In the end, probably deserved, but you cannot have this situation.

‘It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved.’

Taylor throughout had looked to let the game flow, allowing a number of collisions to pass which on another day could have been adjudged to be foul play.

Indeed, it was the intervention of VAR early on in the second half that prevented Manchester City from taking the lead after Taylor had deemed Erling Haaland’s pulling of Fabinho’s shirt not worthy of a foul.

Klopp, like everyone else in the ground, was sucked in by the fraught nature of the game and let the assistant referee know what he thought of him not flagging for the tackle on Salah.

Liverpool were looking to see out their 1-0 advantage with the team being pushed further and further back by City. The Egyptian Salah had the ball high up in City’s defensive third and looked to buy time before Bernardo Silva took him down.

The majority of those inside Anfield appeared as incredulous as Klopp at Taylor’s refusal to blow his whistle.

The non-foul was one of a series of decisions that left the players and managers frustrated with the officials.

Pep Guardiola appeared to be extremely angry at VAR’s decision to disallow Phil Foden’s second half strike while City’s players felt Thiago Alcantara should have been given his marching orders for a tackle on Rodri.

Liverpool saw out the game and the 1-0 win looks to have got their league season back on track after a difficult start that saw them trail the leaders Arsenal by 17 points heading into Sunday’s match.

The Reds’ victory ends City’s unbeaten start to the league season, with the champions now four points off the pace.
