Just Stop Oil protesters have sprayed the front of the world-famous Harrods store in orange paint and are staging a sit-down protest on the road outside.

Two eco-zealots sprayed the iconic store in Knightsbridge, central London, at around 9am as part of an ongoing protest over new oil and gas licences and consents.

A further 20 supporters of the group have also glued themselves to the road outside, with others using locks to attach themselves together.

Furious drivers have attempted to drag the protesters, all of whom are wearing orange jackets and holding a banner aloft, off the road as traffic is brought to a standstill.

It comes as police have made more than 500 arrests across the now 20 days of highly disruptive protests as Just Stop Oil continues its ‘civil resistance’ throughout October.

On Sunday, protesters sprayed orange paint over an Aston Martin showroom in Park Lane, before more than a dozen blocked a four-lane road nearby in a similar stunt.

The Metropolitan Police also arrested 24 protesters on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage after activists sprayed orange paint at New Scotland Yard’s revolving sign earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the group today said: ‘Just Stop Oil supporters have stopped traffic on Knightsbridge in London and sprayed paint on the outside of Harrods to demand that the government halts all new oil and gas licences and consents

‘At 9am today, 20 Just Stop Oil supporters walked onto Knightsbridge in central London and disrupted traffic by sitting in the road with banners.

‘Some supporters glued onto the tarmac and others locked themselves together.

‘Two supporters have also sprayed the outside of Harrods department store with orange paint.’

It comes as two Just Stop Oil demonstrators were charged by police after scaling and suspending themselves from Dartford Bridge for more than day – causing chaos for drivers in the area.

Marcus Decker, 33, of no fixed address, and Morgan Trowland, 39, of Drummond Way, Islington, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a public nuisance after suspending themselves from the bridge and stopping traffic for two days.

The pair of eco-zealots, who put themselves 275ft above one of the busiest roads in the country on Monday morning, were brought down afternoon after a ‘super cherry picker’ arrived to pluck them from the girders.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today.
