QPR boss Michael Beale REJECTS chance to take over Wolves

QPR boss Michael Beale TURNS DOWN Wolves after they made him their No 1 managerial target – and were willing to pay £1m for him – adding a new twist to their farcical search for a new coach

  • QPR boss Michael Beale has rejected the chance to take over as Wolves boss
  • Wolves have been without a manager since they sacked Bruno Lage this month
  • Beale had emerged as the top target for the Premier League club on Wednesday
  • He has guided the Hoops to the top of the Championship after 15 games

Michael Beale has rejected the chance to join Wolves leaving the Premier League strugglers still hunting for a new manager.

Wolves had made the Queens Park Rangers boss, who had taken charge of only 17 games, their first choice to succeed Bruno Lage, after being turned down by Julen Lopetegui last month.

Wolves were prepared to pay Beale’s £1million release clause and were confident of having him in place for Sunday’s clash with Leicester.

But after leading QPR to the top of the Championship with a 3-0 win over Cardiff on Tuesday, Beale decided to stay in west London.

He said: ‘If an offer comes in officially, you don’t have to take it. You have to weigh up everything. There are a lot of questions you need to get answers to.

‘Football is about feelings and relationships. We’ve built strong relationships here.

‘I felt over-ready for this job and I feel supremely confident in this job. It’s 100% a dream of mine to manage in the Premier League. That’s not a secret.

‘But it has to be the right opportunity, the right moment and the right club. And they’d have to give me a really clear understanding of where that club’s going.’

Beale had emerged as a leading candidate after an impressive start to the season at QPR, with the Englishman having guided the west London club to top of the Championship table following Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Cardiff.

Beale was seen as one of a number of options that Wolves were looking, including former Lyon boss Peter Bosz, before he was identified as their No 1 choice.

QPR would have been due £1m in compensation if Beale was to depart and that figure was not seen as a problem for the Premier League side.

Beale had previously been Steven Gerrard’s assistant at both Rangers and Aston Villa

The Hoops boss had hinted that he was set to stay at the club following their resounding win over Cardiff on Wednesday.

He had told reporters: ‘If an offer does come in officially, you don’t have to take it. I am picky.

‘I had other offers as a coach at Aston Villa and had questions before coming here. I had offers when at Rangers. You have to weigh up everything.’
