Neighbour threatens to have uni students evicted from rental in Brisbane’s north for being too loud

Sharehouse students reveal a ‘nasty’ letter from neighbours threatening to have them evicted because of their noise – but others in local community back the first-time renters

  • Group of uni students moved into home in Brisbane’s north three months ago
  • Furious neighbour sent them a scathing letter threatening to call the police
  • Resident also said they’d threaten to create a petition to have them evicted
  • They claimed the parties were ‘too loud’ and they were noisy every second night
  • One tenant said they’d only thrown two parties in the time they had lived there

A furious neighbour has threatened to have a group of university students who throw parties that are ‘way too loud’ evicted from their rental – but many have instead backed the young tenants.

The students have recently moved into the home in one of Brisbane’s northern suburbs, and said they were ‘very excited’ to be living together for the first time.

But instead they’ve been told ‘enough is enough’ by one disgruntled neighbour, who left them a scathing note demanding they stop making noise ‘every second night’.

‘All your neighbours have had enough of your extremely loud noise that goes on every second night,’ the note, typed in all caps, read.

‘Go and practice your music away from this area.

‘If this persists we will call the police, the council and write a petition to your real estate agent to have you evicted. Your parties are also way too loud.’

One furious neighbour sent a group of uni students a scathing letter threatening to have them evicted from their house in Brisbane’s north

The anonymous writer said the students needed to have respect for their other neighbours who wanted ‘peace and quiet’.

‘Enough is enough!’

One of the uni students living in the home said that within the past three months they’d only thrown two parties and had two band rehearsals.

‘Hi neighbours, so we just opened this letter and we are really sorry we’ve caused so much commotion. This is our first ever house we’ve rented as uni students so we were very excited,’ one of the tenants said after sharing a photo of the letter.

‘But we really would’ve appreciate someone come and say something to us in person and not send a nasty letter like this. It’s not very nice to receive as a first time renting experience.’

She also claimed that she and her housemates had sent letters around to her neighbours before each party but one had called the police before 10pm.

The students have since been backed by other residents in the area, with many saying the author of the letter ‘had too much time on their hands’.

‘This person sucks,’ said one.

‘You did all the right things; let neighbours know of parties, gave your contacts etc. You deserve to have an open conversation face to face or on the phone, not an anonymous letter like this,’ added another.

‘Straight in the bin I say,’ one commented.

‘What a party pooper! You should party twice as hard now,’ another wrote.

‘This aggression is so disgusting.’
