A DPD driver has been caught on CCTV dropping his trousers and relieving himself as a mother with her young child walked past.

Footage captured at around 9.30am on November 7 shows the driver running into the entrance of a block of flats on Durham Road, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, before urinating against the wall.

Seconds later he pulls up his trousers, fastens his belt and runs off back in the direction of his van.

Furious residents said the action was ‘inexcusable’ as they asked the delivery firm to take action and demanded he is taken off their route.

They reviewed the CCTV from that morning after locals noticed a puddle of urine against the wall.

DPD say they are ‘appalled’ by his behaviour and have apologised.

One resident said: ‘He just comes into the entrance, undoes his belt and starts having a wee against the wall.

‘You can see that there’s even a woman with a child in her buggy who walk past. He then walks away and you can see he is doing his belt up.’

Following the incident, residents disinfected the area with bleach.

The resident added: ‘It is just disgusting, there are any amount of places that they can nip into like a McDonald’s or a Burger King – not in someone’s residential entrance.

‘Even if he was off-duty, he is wearing their uniform and bringing the company into disrepute.’

In response, DPD said it is 'appalled' by the CCTV footage and said the matter is being investigated by its security team
