A hazmat team was called to an asylum seekers hotel before emergency services took one person to hospital following a ‘medical incident’.
The Beresford Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, which is used to house asylum seekers, is now at the centre of a police and ambulance service investigation this afternoon.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene to deal with what was described as a ‘medical incident’.
One man was seen being escorted out of the hotel just after 3pm. The UK Health Security Agency, formerly Public Health England, said it was aware of an individual that was taken to hospital from a hotel in Newquay.
The spokesperson added that they understand the person is now in the care of the NHS but could not comment on an individual.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: ‘We were called at 11.36hrs to an incident in Newquay. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer and hazardous area response team resources.
‘We conveyed one patient to hospital by land ambulance.’
Witnesses said they saw medical staff inside the hotel wearing ‘full white suits and masks’, the Sun reports.
Officers stood guard outside the three star, £60-per-night hotel on the beachfront in Newquay.

An NHS testing van was also seen outside the hotel for much of Thursday, Cornwall Live reports.
The incident is not being led by the police.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were notified by Ambulance Services to assist at the location.’
