Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s reportedly turned to his friend and TV presenter James Corden for advice, before taking the decision to appoint Frank Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season.

Lampard’s sensational return to the Stamford Bridge dugout was confirmed on Thursday, having previously been sacked by the club back in 2021.

The 44-year-old took temporary charge following the decision to sack Graham Potter last Sunday.

According to the Sun, Boehly had asked for Corden’s opinion as he searched for a caretaker manager to take charge, with the Blues continuing their search for a permanent boss.

The TV star reportedly suggested Lampard, with the pair having become friends from the Sky show A League of Their Own.

Corden had previously hosted the show, with Lampard’s cousin Jamie Redknapp serving as one of the team captains.

The pair had been spotted having lunch in Mayfair last year alongside Clearlake Capital co-founder Behdad Eghbali.

Corden, who co-created the sitcom Gavin and Stacey, is a known supporter of West Ham.
