A flood of offers? Two bed maisonette inside converted Grade II listed Victorian pump house with views over the River Thames goes on the market for £1.4m

A stylish home inside a former Victorian pump house is on sale for £1.4million.

The two-bedroom maisonette comes with a host of secret extras, including a tiny, copper-clad two-person bar on its club-style mezzanine floor.

The Grade II listed building started life in 1902 as home to one of the pumping stations for the London Hydraulic Power Company and was converted into housing in 2000.

The network of water power created was used exclusively for the homes and businesses of London.

At its peak it managed 180 miles of pipes supplying power for the majority of the city, including Tower Bridge’s back-up raising mechanism, and the London Palladium’s revolving stage, and was one of the first buildings of its kind in the country.

Many of the pump house’s original features, including its super-sized arched windows, the soaring iron roof beams and support trusses, have been retained in the design.

Visitors arrive on the ground floor to an entrance hall next to a utility room which is also being used as a home gym.

On the right is the principal bedroom, which is next to a family-sized bathroom, complete with a modern oval tub and a glass-block window wall.

At the end of the hallway is a large sitting and dining room, which opens onto the kitchen which has appliances cleverly tucked away under the stairs and a range-style cooker.

The mezzanine level, which is positioned above the kitchen, has a private club feel, with a stylish, copper-clad bar, a music station and a sofa overlooking the main living space.

On the first floor there is the second bedroom and a shower bathroom, with a study and workspace next to the galleried library area, which agents Anderson Rose say could be used as a third bedroom.

The maisonette comes with its own underground parking space as well as views over the River Thames and is a minute’s walk from Canada Water station.

It also provided power for the London Palladium's revolving stage, and was one of the first buildings of its kind in the country

Robin Chalk from Anderson Rose said the property belonged to a professional couple who were moving for family reasons.

He said: ‘This is a truly stunning apartment that abounds with original features. Due to its excellent location and transport links from Canada Water station, I think it would be perfect for a single professional or couple who are looking for a cool and notable place to live.

‘I could also see it going to an older couple who have done well for themselves and want to live in a place with great connections and near to the river.’
