Jockey is BARRED from racing in the Melbourne Cup carnival after his attempt to do a mate a favour went horribly wrong

Aussie Jockey Daniel Moor has been ruled out of the Melbourne Cup carnival after his attempt to help out a friend went horribly wrong.

Moor, 39, was concussed in an incident involving a horse at the Cranbourne jump-outs on Monday.

Under Racing Victoria’s concussion protocols, Moor cannot race for 12 days.

‘Another jockey had double-booked himself, I was doing a favour,’ Moor told RSN radio.

‘The horse was fine, a beautiful, quiet horse, he just anticipated the jump too fast out of the barriers.

‘He came down on his nose and then when he bopped back up his head and neck sort of bopped me in the face.

‘I was seeing stars for a few minutes there but finished on the trial and then got off and felt a bit groggy. I think everyone’s erring on the side of caution and having to do this 12-day stand-down.’

The jockey explained that being struck by the horse’s head while racing is a very common danger.

‘You’ve just got to be quick enough to get your head out of the way and unfortunately this time I wasn’t,’ he said.

In a statement posted on social media, Moor said it was frustrating to be ruled out of the carnival. 

‘As I feel in good health, it is (a) very frustrating and disappointing outcome as we head into the Flemington Spring Racing Carnival,’ Moor posted on X (formerly Twitter).

‘I do, however, understand and respect the protocol is in place to protect the health and safety of not only myself, but fellow riders.

‘I am thankful for the support from trainers and owners that I receive and look forward to being of service when I return.

‘I also look forward to completing a cognitive function test in 12 days’ time, with a return to race riding as soon as possible.’
