Julian Edelman recently recalled one of his, if not, only interaction with NBA legend Michael Jordan before Super Bowl XLIX in 2014, as the New England Patriots were set to play the Seattle Seahawks in Glendale, Arizona.

Speaking on his Games with Names podcast, the 37-year-old former wide receiver said he saw Jordan and Derek Jeter a week before the showdown while going out for dinner with his parents.

He remembers being ‘super starstruck’ when encountering both icons and that Jeter was a ‘very charming guy, welcoming.’

‘I saw Jordan. He was kinda of like standoffish a little bit,’ he then said.

‘And as soon as the conversation’s about to end, like five minutes in, I’m about to leave, Jordan comes up to me. He goes, ”Hey, kid, I got a bunch of money on you. Don’t f*** it up.” And that’s the only thing he said to me.’

The Patriots led by Tom Brady and coached by Bill Belichick, ending up defeating the Seahawks, 28-24, to win their fourth Super Bowl in franchise history, as they scored 14 unanswered  points in the fourth quarter to come back and win.

Edelman was influential as ever in that game, as he caught nine passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown pass comes with a little over two minutes to go in the fourth quarter and gave the Patriots the lead.

Edelman was drafted by the Patriots as a seventh round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He recorded 359 receiving yards in his rookie season but became one of the league’s best wide receivers at the time in 2013 when he logged 1,035 receiving yards.

When he announced his retirement in 2020, Edelman had recorded 620 receptions for 6,822 yards and 26 receiving touchdowns in his 11-year NFL career.

He won three Super Bowls during his time on the Patriots, including Super Bowl MVP in 2018.

Edelman was a quarterback for his high-school team in Woodside, California, and as a senior he led the Woodside High School Wildcats to a 13–0 record in 2004. He also played quarterback at Kent State University before being drafted as a wide receiver.

Edelman was once in an on and off relationship with Brazilian model Adriana Lima in 2016 and 2017.
