A group of skiers had a lucky escape after an out-of-control moose careered down a slope and hurtled towards them.

Erik Stark recorded the bizarre footage using a GoPro at the ski resort in Åre, Sweden.

The unexpected arrival can be seen narrowly avoiding the group of thrill-seekers before it darts off into the distance without causing any serious damage.

In the video, Mr Stark glides down the snow-covered slope against a stunning backdrop of mountains.

The wind can be heard rushing past as he comes to a gradual stop at the bottom of the run.

Mr Stark turns his head to see who is following in his path before spotting a large animal bounding down the hill.

The crowd stand in awe and Mr Stark lets out a nervous laugh before the video comes to an end. 

Mr Stark, who is a powerboat racing champion, uploaded the video to social media a short time later alongside the caption: ‘I had to stop to allow the moose to overtake me.’ 

It has since been viewed more than 45,000 times.
