A shocking crash on the M6 closed the motorway in both directions after a lorry tipped on its side and spilled debris on the road. 

Two HGVs collided at junction 10 near Walsall on Sunday morning, causing diesel to leak.

Barriers on the central reservation were also flattened after it appears the lorry skidded over before grounding to a halt in the middle of the road.

Central Motorway Police Group confirmed that there were no injuries in the crash.

Both the Northbound and Southbound directions blocked, with Highways England warning of delays of up to 30 minutes as a ‘complex recovery takes place’.

A spokesperson said: ‘Closures expected to remain into the afternoon, HGV & shed load require recovery and diesel spillage will then need to be treated, along with barrier repairs.’

Highways England also advised football fans travelling to see Manchester United play Watford, Wolves and Norwich City FC and Everton and Arsenal to allow extra time for journeys. 

A spokesperson for Central Motorway Police Group said: ‘Owing to a collision between two heavy goods vehicles at junction 10 there will be delays in the area throughout the day, please find an alternative route. Luckily no injuries.’
