Virgin Media internet, TV and the company’s website has crashed leaving thousands of customers cut off.

Realtime outage tracker Downdetector reported upwards of 2,000 complaints from the telecom giant’s customers as of this afternoon.

London, Bournemouth and Portsmouth seem to be bearing the brunt of the issue with the majority of the complaints coming from there.

Virgin Media said via Twitter that they are ‘aware of the issue and we are making sure that we are on top of this’ but did not give a reason as to why the outage occurred in the first place. 

A message appearing on their website stated that they are ‘making some essential changes’. 

The outage coincided with the Six Nations match between England and Ireland, causing further anger.

Damian Mayo said: ‘So the one thing I actually want to watch all week and… Virgin stops working for terrestrial TV. I just want to watch England v Ireland!’. 

Andy Milsom wrote: ‘Not enjoying the rugby much with a picture like this. What’s going on?’

Claire Adams wrote: ‘You need a lesson in communication if there is a problem, which it would appear is widespread. 

‘At least update your website and or twitter page. Virgin is has become increasingly unreliable.’

Charlie wrote: ‘TV reception totally gone, has been for around 20 minutes now. 

‘Tried calling the automated number for any issues, no TV or broadband issues apparently. 

‘But there are many others like me with no signal!’
