Phoebe Waller-Bridge reveals she dreamt she would be involved in a Bond film before being approached

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has revealed she dreamt she would be involved in a Bond film just months before being approached to help write the script.

The 34-year-old Fleabag writer revealed the ‘strange’ coincidence while being interviewed on Chris Evan’s Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, set to air on Monday.

Actress Phoebe said she believes she put the idea of her involvement ‘out into the ether’, causing her to be asked to meet with film producer Barbara Broccoli.

The star also revealed that she intends to get dressed up in a tuxedo like 007 himself at the film’s premiere in April.

Speaking to the radio presenter about the moment she got the call from the Bond film writers Phoebe said: ‘I was in the edit for Fleabag. It was an afternoon, and I had the call that Barbara wanted to meet me.

‘That Barbra Broccoli wants to meet me for a coffee. And I was like, all right. But the strangest thing is, is that I’d really I had been sort of dreaming about the idea of it only a couple a few months beforehand.

‘I was like, “Oh, wouldn’t it be cool to be involved in a Bond film to sort of just put that there in the ether?” And then it just came around.’

The acclaimed writer – who saw her annual salary jump from £82,000 in 2018 to £518,000 this year after the success of Fleabag and Killing Eve – was drafted in to help ‘polish’ the partially written Bond script.

Phoebe has now released a tell-all book on the writing of her hit series, Fleabag: The Scriptures.

Explaining her role on the upcoming film Phoebe said: ‘I just sort of do dialogue polishes and offer things really, it’s about just offering different alternatives.

‘They did give me some scenes and then be like, can you write some alternatives for this or have another idea about where it could go in the middle or how it would end. And then I would just give them options and various scenes and then they would take what they want.

‘But there was a lot people writing Carey and the director was a writer on it as well. And there’d been a few writers before.’

The actress and screenwriter also explained how James Bond actor Daniel Craig has also been heavily involved in the script writing – the actor claims this film No Time To Die will be his last in the 007 role.

Phoebe told Chris Evans: ‘Daniel is really, really involved from the beginning of yet so many great conversations with him about it, constantly in touch with him about it. So it’s a big sort of melting pot of everybody’s ideas the whole time.’

At the film’s premiere Phoebe plans to wear a tux like the Bond character often does, telling the presenter: ‘I think I want to wear like a tux. I want to go as Bond.’

The star will also prepare for the premiere with her long-term hair dresser Armenio.

Talking about her beloved hairdresser Phoebe said: ‘I met him when I was at drama school and he was a friend of a friend.

‘And he gave me a free haircut, which was massive because, you know, you’re a student and you’re doing it yourself. Hacking it to pieces yourself in your bathroom. And I had long curly hair.

‘And he said, “I’ll give you a free haircut, but you need to have short hair that had that you’re supposed to have.” And he cut it all off. And just after I left drama school and he cut it all off and I started getting work. So he was right.’

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2 and in the US on April 8.
