Two people have died after a car plunged off a bridge and into water as children were coming out of a nearby school. 

A man, 52, and a woman, 21, were travelling in a white Fiat Punto in Chapel St Leonards, Lincolnshire, when the vehicle came off Tyler’s Bridge at around 3.30pm yesterday. 

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene, near Chapel St Leonards Primary School, but the man was pronounced dead.

The woman was rushed to hospital but later died.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman told Lincs Live: ‘At 3.22pm a white Fiat Punto entered a waterway on Sea Lane, near the primary school.

‘Despite the efforts of members of the public and emergency services, a 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The other person in the car, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to hospital but later died.’
