During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to promote Spenser Confidential, Wahlberg spoke about his character and the film’s plot.

‘He was a former police officer who just basically cannot stand when somebody is being wronged, especially innocent people,’ he began.

‘So there’s a homicide within the police department, there’s a lot of corruption going on. He tries to do all the things right to get them to find out who’s responsible, they’re kind of sandbagging the investigation, so he decides to go after his superiors himself,’ he said.

Wahlberg continued: ‘He ends up beating up his superior, goes to prison for five years, actually makes it in population in prison and then he ‘s going to leave town.’

‘And then he realizes that there’s more corruption going on and he can’t stand by to see injustice, so he’s going to take it upon himself to now be a private investigator,’ he added.
