Miley Cyrus’s personal connection to Australian bushfire crisis

Miley Cyrus says she’s always considered Australia ‘a second home’ and reveals Cody Simpson will be ‘a support system’ when she headlines bushfire relief concert in March

Miley Cyrus will headline a bushfire relief concert at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium on March 13, ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

And the 27-year-old singer told the Sunday Herald Sun that she’s always considered Australia ‘a second home’.

The American pop star said she can relate to those who have lost their homes, as her Malibu, California mansion she once shared with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth was destroyed two years ago.

‘We lost our place in Malibu to fires, so I have a personal connection to that sense of loss and displacement,’ Miley explained.

‘I’ve spent the last 10 or 12 years really considering Australia a second home for me,’ the Wrecking Ball artist continued.

‘I’ve always felt really attached to it, it felt like Nashville but with beautiful beaches.’

During her marriage to Liam, 30, Miley would often stay with his family in Byron Bay, NSW, and also spent time in Victoria.

And while her boyfriend Cody Simpson won’t be performing at the bushfire relief concert, Miley said that the 23-year-old will ‘be coming as a support system’.

Cody, who hails from Queensland’s Gold Coast and now lives in the U.S., revealed in January that he felt ‘helpless’ watching the bushfire crisis worsen back home.

‘Watching my home burn from across the sea… I feel helpless. But there are ways we can all help,’ the singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram during a trip to Colorado.

Tickets for the World Tour Bushfire Relief fundraiser went on sale on Tuesday via Ticketek, with prices starting at $116.

Miley said via her Instagram Stories earlier this month that ‘proceeds from ticket sales will go to Australian charities working to restore forests, wildlife and communities affected by the devastating fires’.
