A 24-year-old snowboarder has escaped with concussion, two black eyes and a broken nose after knocking herself out during a practice race.

Shocking footage shows Macarena Valle slam her head into a metal rail when she misses it at the Burton US Open 2020 before flipping and crashing into the frozen ground.

She was unconscious for several minutes and later posted a photo showing a large dent in the side of her helmet.

The video begins with Ms Valle jumping to reach the metal rail during the women’s slopestyle practice run on Thursday last week.

But she misses. The board swings to the right and her legs go up over her head as it slams against the cold metal.

She crashes against the hard snow and slides several feet down the slope.

Ms Valle has posted several updates since the crash to let fans know she is well, and to show her injuries.

She has shared the video of her crash. ‘This is the gnarliest thing I ever saw in my life and it’s myself,’ she captioned the clip. ‘Glad I’m still walking out alive of this one.’

She has also shared a picture of her heavily dented helmet with the caption: ‘Just a reminder to wear your helmet. This one saved Maca Valle’s life! Glad you’re ok Maca.’

Posting a picture of her cut nose and black eyes on social media yesterday, she wrote: ‘It’s me swollen. Thanks Burton Snowboard US Open for the best times and to everyone for making it a blast!’

Ms Valle competes competitively in snowboarding races. She finished first in the Cerro Catedral Big Air run, Argentina, in 2017, and eighth in the Vars Big Air Run, France, in 2018.
