A successful businesswoman has been fined for being drunk and disorderly after she tried to bash down the door of a gay bar in the early hours of the morning.

Police were scrambled to DYMK in Bournemouth at around 3.50am on December 8 last year to discover Julie Cook-Hughes trying to break through the entrance.

The 45-year-old, who won Dorset Business Mother of the Year 2015, was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly – her second alcohol-related offence in less than a year.

In June she was banned from driving after drinking cocktails and wine with friends and refusing to give police a roadside breath test.

The mother-of-three, who lives in an £800,000 home in Poole Harbour, has run an award-winning recruitment agency for 20 years.

She appeared before magistrates in Poole today and admitted being drunk and disorderly.

At the previous court case in June, her lawyer said her drinking problem stemmed from an abusive marriage and debts run up by her former husband, which had left her with post-traumatic stress disorder.

In November 2018 she received a requisition from Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs to pay £1.4million, debts which she said were down to her ex.

He also said she had ‘re-hauled’ her life since the offence and was working hard on being a mother and her business.

On that occasion she was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £300.

Today, she was given a three-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £21 victim surcharge.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: ‘Officers were called at 3.52am on December 8, 2019, to a report that a woman was trying to break the door down at DYMK in Bournemouth.

‘Officers attended and arrested a woman on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.’
