MAFS: Seb understands why Elizabeth’s family had ‘reservations’ about him

Married At First Sight’s Seb Guilhaus understands why Elizabeth’s family had ‘reservations’ about her joining the experiment again… after her mother threatened to KILL him

Elizabeth Sobinoff’s mother, Gillian, said she’d ‘kill’ Seb Guilhaus if he ever betrayed her daughter like Sam Ball did on last year’s season of Married At First Sight.

And while this threat would send most men running for the hills, Seb understands why his wife’s parents are so protective of her going into the experiment for a second time.

The 30-year-old personal trainer said on Talking Married that Elizabeth and her family had a ‘traumatic experience’ in 2019 so their attitudes aren’t surprising.

‘I knew I had to just be honest and open’: Married At First Sight’s Seb Guillhaus has spoken about the pressure of marrying returning bride Elizabeth Sobinoff after they tied the knot in Monday’s episode

‘Last year it was so traumatic, not only for Liz but for family as well,’ he said.

‘So stepping into the gladiatorial ring, I knew I had to just be honest and open, and they really did grill me.’

On Monday, Gillian questioned Seb about why he had been single for eight years, asked if he was ‘two-faced’, and demanded to know if he’d ever cheated on a ex.

Seb answered her questions calmly, and told Talking Married host Shelly Horton on Monday he was happy to do so.

‘What they saw their daughter go through last year would have been extremely difficult, so I understood their reservations,’ he said.

‘I hope I’ve made them feel at ease. I know who I am,’ he added.

Shelly also asked Seb what his thoughts were upon seeing his ‘wife’ for the first time.

Elizabeth jokingly said, ‘Run!’, but the former footy player said that wasn’t actually the case because he didn’t even recognise her from MAFS season six.

‘It wasn’t run! I didn’t see much of last year to be honest,’ he said.

Second time's a charm? Elizabeth was also asked if the experience of walking down the aisle was easier for a second time. She said, 'the second time going in I wanted to let that (trauma of the first marriage) go and I actually found it was hard to let that go and be present'

Elizabeth was also asked if the experience of walking down the aisle was easier the second time around.

She replied: ‘I wouldn’t exactly say easier. The second time going in I wanted to let [the first marriage] go and I actually found it was hard to let that go and be present in the moment.’

Married At First Sight continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine

The right man: When asked about what it was like being at the other end of the aisle and seeing her husband, she said: 'I felt I just had a sigh of relief. It felt natural, and it felt comfortable'
