Joe Swash revealed he had to have emergency surgery on his ear to drain the ‘goo’ after his wound got infected. 

The presenter, 38, was kicked in the head by his Dancing On Ice partner Alex Murphy as they rehearsed for the live final on Tuesday. 

Joe took to his Instagram stories on Wednesday to give fans an update on his injury and said he had to go to hospital to drain the fluid from his ear.

‘I thought we’d get the elephant out of the room and talk about this stupid, ridiculous bandage on my head,’ Joe said. 

‘So basically what happened was me and Al were doing disco dad and her skate kicked me in the ear which gave me cauliflower ear

‘Then it go infected which meant last night I had to get rushed to hospital and have an operation on it and cut it open and drain out all the gooey stuff.

‘The best thing is the doctor said I have to keep this on my head until Sunday so all week we’re going to be doing the Bolero looking like this.’

Joe was given the OK to skate in the final by a doctor earlier in the day, where he will go up against Libby Clegg and Mark Hanretty, and Perri Kiely and Vanessa Bauer. 

An insider told The Sun: ‘Joe has been cleared by a doctor to perform on Sunday.

‘He’s fine, but he’s just annoyed about getting an infection and is wearing the bandage as a precaution.

‘He’s out on the ice now rehearsing.’ 

Joe surprised partner Stacey Solomon – who he has nine-month-old Rex with – when he arrived back home hours after rehearsals with the bandage on.

The Loose Women panellist, 30, couldn’t stop laughing when the Dancing on Ice star arrived home with the unexpected dressing on his head.

Stacey explained what had happened in a written message to fans as she couldn’t ‘talk right now I’m actually crying (with laughter)’. 

She added: ‘Hope you’ve all had a lovely day. Joe is safe and well and still dancing he just had some sort of ear infection and it looks to me like they’re being precautious. 

‘But I’m here for it. It’s totally taken my mind off of creepy series and I’m thoroughly enjoying this belly laugh. Goodnight everyone and love you all.’ 

Despite the injury, all seemed to be well as Stacey shared a sweet video with Joe and nine-month-old son Rex in the morning. 

Stacey joked that their little one ‘can NOT work out what is going on with Daddy today’, as they both looked at him and laughed as he looked at Joe with a confused expression on his face.
