Lewis Capaldi insists his ex Paige Turley has ‘every right’ to cash in on their romance

Lewis Capaldi has insisted that his ex Paige Turley has should be free to cash in on their romance, after her stint in the Love Island villa.  

The Scottish singer, 23, admitted that Paige, 22, has ‘every right’ to speak about their relationship after he released several songs about her, and insisted that they’re still on great terms.

Lewis and Paige dated for two years in their late teens before their rise to fame, with Paige now going onto date her fellow Love Island winner Finn Tapp.

Lewis told the Independent: ‘This sounds very crass, but when you go out with a singer they can write songs about you and make money from that.

‘So she’s got every right to talk about it, too.’  

Lewis met Paige while they were both studying music at New College Lanarkshire in 2014 and the pair dated until 2016.

The BRIT winner went onto explain that he penned the 2017 single Bruises about Paige, with the heartfelt ballad reaching number six in the UK charts.

Lewis said: ‘Everyone thinks Someone You Loved is about Paige, it’s actually Bruises, and a bunch of other songs on the album that are about [her].’ 

The music star went to reveal that he found it strange seeing his former lover on the television, but that they remain on excellent terms.

During her time in the Love Island villa, Paige mentioned her famous ex on a number of occasions and recently texted Lewis to congratulate him on his BRITS win.

The Gaelic goddess revealed that former beau Lewis responded to her well wishes by congratulating her on winning the ITV2 reality series Love Island in February.

Paige told the BBC on Thursday: ‘He just congratulated me obviously because of Love Island but I’ve not really had a chance to catch up with anybody. It’s been hectic. We’re still good friends.’

Paige stormed to fame earlier this year after winning inaugural winter series of Love Island with Oxford based footballer Finn Tapp. 

The loved-up couple split the £50,000 prize money between them and have been enjoying a number of dates since leaving the South African paradise.

On Friday the pair were spotted looking every inch the young couple in love as they enjoyed a night out at Peter Street Kitchen in Manchester city centre.

The pair revealed a move is already on the cards, with Finn, 20, hoping that Paige will leave her native Scotland to be nearer to him in Milton Keynes 400 miles away.

It seems love is in the air for Lewis as well, as the singer has reportedly been enjoying a number of low-key dates with Catherine Halliday, 21, in his hometown of West Lothian. 

The Sun reported that Lewis had been courting student Catherine for a while, with the pair stepping out at Italian restaurant Prezzo at the end of February.
