Married At First Sight’s Stacey Hampton declared her love for ‘husband’ Michael Goonan on Sunday.

But with rumours swirling that the couple have split up since the experiment ended, the bride, 26, has fuelled speculation telling TV Week that the millionaire businessman, 28, ‘played’ her.

The law graduate said: ‘I feel like I was Michael’s puppet the whole time. I actually feel like he played me.’

Stacey said he had persuaded her not to give up on him, and that his efforts to stop drinking kept their relationship on track.

She said he stopped drinking alcohol and took tablets to make that easier.  

‘I was falling for him anyway, and then he took the steps I wish other partners of mine had to try to stop drinking. These are big things to me. I was thinking “he must really love me”, she said.

She added: ‘For him to hurt me that much, obviously I was falling for him.’ 

On Sunday’s episode, Stacey declared her love for the Adelaide businessman during the commitment ceremony, despite his cheating scandal with bride Hayley Vernon.

Stacey said: ‘I’ve forgiven him. So far his actions have proven that he’s dedicated to regaining my trust. We’re here to move on from that negative light… I love him.’

Expert John Aiken responded: ‘Does that mean you’re in love with him?’

Michael then declared: ‘I’m in love with Stacey, there’s no doubt about it. I’ve never chased a girl before that hard in my life.

‘We live so close to each other, our lives could be entwined instantly.’

Stacey continued: ‘Obviously we’ve got kids the same age, we can introduce them. Going back [home] and not living together, we’d feel a bit lost I think.’
