Susanna Reid says she feels ‘more comfortable with herself’ as she approaches turning 50


She is known for her bubbly and energetic charm as she presents Good Morning Britain alongside Piers Morgan. 

And Susanna Reid has spoken out on how she feels about turning 50, revealing that she ‘definitely feels more comfortable’ with herself now than she did in her younger years. 

The beloved presenter will turn 50 in December this year, but she says she isn’t worried and pointed to other celebrities who have recently joined The 50 Club.

Using Jennifer Lopez as an example, Susanna exclaimed that she believes 50 is not the cut-off point anymore but is rather an invitation to power through. 

She told The Sun: ‘I definitely feel more comfortable with myself.’

She noted that 20 years ago she remembers that she would look in the mirror and question why she didn’t look like her then-idol, Patsy Kensit.

However, she feels more comfortable now she has accepted that she never will. 

She went on to say that she sees the ageing process as a blessing and she feels lucky to still be working and thriving in a great career. 

The presenter has many strings to her bow and in 2013, after presenting on BBC Breakfast for nine years, she became the runner-up on the 11th series of Strictly Come Dancing with dance partner Kevin Clifton.

Just one year later she was nabbed by ITV and was almost instantly named Newsreader of the Year by the Television and Radio Industries Club. 

Susanna says she sees 50 as a year of self-acceptance rather than self-improvement. 

She added to the publication: ‘I’ve got to an age where this is who I am and I’m happy with that.’

This year will be the 20th anniversary of her first news bulletin on the BBC, which showcased what Susanna now calls her ‘Lego hair’. 

She noted that when she started news presenting, women had to discard glamour and adopt serious looks.   

She told the publication: ‘What’s wonderful now is women feel like they don’t have to look like that.’  

Susanna revealed a few of her secrets which help to keep her looking so youthful as she ages. 

She gave up alcohol in 2018 and lost a stone-and-a-half in the process. But the real reason behind her quitting was to help her skin from becoming red and blemished. 

A healthy diet has also appeared to have made a difference. For breakfast at work she will ask for beetroot gravlax  salmon and a cup of black coffee. 

When asked about her relationship status, Susanna, who split up with her millionaire boyfriend Steve Parish, 54, last April, declined to comment.   

The TV star has sons Sam, 18, Finn, 16, and Jack, 15, with ex-husband Dominic Cotton. They divorced in 2014 after marrying in 1998.
