This is the moment a lorry driver was rescued from his cab when his lorry got stuck on a flooded road today.

The bakery van was stranded after the River Ely broke its banks at St Fagans, in Cardiff, south-east Wales.

A three-man rescue team waded out to the Brakes food wholesaler lorry with a raft attached to a rope.

They got the driver out of his cab through the window and brought him back to safety.

It is the third time in three weeks that the river flowing to the west of the city has flooded.

The railway line has also been closed and trains diverted because of flooding. 

There are 11 flood warnings and 27 flood alerts across Wales following a night and morning of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, amber and yellow warnings for rain were in place across large parts of the country after more than 50mm fell in parts. 

The Environment Agency has issued more than 30 flood warnings and 150 flood alerts with heavy rain predicted to affect areas of the country badly hit by last month’s storms.

Flood barriers are being deployed to protect Hereford, three weeks after a record high on the River Wye of 6.11 metres – more than two metres above the level which leads to minor flooding in the city.

The Environment Agency said the River Wye was expected to peak in Hereford tonight at around five metres, while the Met Office has warned of heavy rain in parts of Wales and northern England.

Meanwhile, the River Severn in Shrewsbury is predicted to rise to levels which may cause flooding in the town on Wednesday.
