John Krasinski says Emily Blunt returned for Quiet Place Part II after he pitched her opening scene

John Krasinski has written and directed a sequel to his 2018 horror hit A Quiet Place which once again has him working with his actress wife Emily Blunt.

But making a second movie wasn’t something either of them initially wanted to do, Krasinski said at the premiere of A Quiet Place Part II on Sunday night in New York.

After a lot of pressure from the studio, he said he did come up with an idea he thought would work and Blunt decided to come on board after he pitched her the opening scene.

Return: John Krasinski says it was his wife Emily Blunt who convinced him to do a sequel to 2018 horror hit A Quiet Place after he pitched her his idea for the opening to the movie

‘I told the studio that I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t want to write and direct the next one because the first one was so incredibly personal,’ he told E! News on the red carpet.

But after coming up with a plot, the actor, who found fame on the NBC sitcom The Office, said it was Blunt who encouraged him to write a script.

Krasinski, 40, explained that his wife told him: ‘If I see that you’re in love with it as much as you were with the first one, I’ll do it.’

So he wrote the script and she read it and then told him she’d star in it.

Meanwhile, Blunt, 37, told Variety at the premiere: ‘He pitched me the opening, and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ [It was] undeniably great, and I realized I would have been an idiot not to want to be in that opening sequence. We had to surrender to the idea that we wanted to do it and lose our snobbery.’

The 17-year-old, who is deaf, plays Regan Abbott, the daughter of Blunt’s Evelyn Abbott and Lee Abbot, played by Krasinski, who was killed in the original film.

The sequel opens at the point where the first film ended with Evelyn Abbott forced to try and find another safe haven for her children in a world stalked by creatures that hunt by sound.

But this time around, she discovers that there are even more threats out there as she ventures into the unknown with Regan, son Marcus (Noah Jupe) and her newborn baby.

The trailers released for the film reveal that Krasinski also returns in front of the camera as Evelyn’s husband Lee Abbott in newly filmed flashback scenes.

Krasinski told Variety: ‘If the first movie is from the parents to the kids, this is the love letter from the kids to the parents.’

‘It’s a letter of dreams and hopes. I hope [my children are] this brave, and I hope they’re this courageous, and I hope they’re the ones that, when time gets dark, they’re cool enough to light the candle,’ he said.

Krasinski and Blunt married in 2010 and have two daughters – Hazel, six, and Violet, three.
