Ireland closes all schools, colleges and nurseries until March 29 amid coronavirus outbreak

All schools, colleges and nurseries will be closed across Ireland until March 29 amid a growing coronavirus outbreak.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said ‘schools, colleges and childcare facilities will close from tomorrow’ in a speech outside Blair House in Washington DC.

Indoor events of more than 100 people and those outdoor involving over 500 ‘should be cancelled’, he added.

Mr Varadkar said people should continue to go to work in they can, but those who are able to should work from home.

The Taoiseach added that shops, cafes and restaurants will remain open across Ireland, the Irish Times reported.  

He also advised citizens to limit their social interaction wherever possible.
