She recently confused fans with her accent after being accused of disguising her native Geordie twang.

But Donna Air cut a stylish figure at the MOON Oral Beauty Launch in Soho, London, on Wednesday.

The Byker Grove actress, 40, donned a monochrome maxi dress which boasted contrasting checkered patterns.

The short sleeved piece, which fell at mid-calf length, was tied together with a white satin ribbon waist band.

She finished the look with black pointed-toe court shoes, a padded Coco Chanel over the shoulder bag and a short sage green raincoat.

Donna wore her shoulder length blonde locks in tousled waves and opted for rosy palette of blush tones to complement her natural beauty.

The launch comes after the Newcastle-born actress appeared on ITV’s This Morning  to talk to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about the return of BBC divorce drama The Split.

But viewers quickly pointed out that her voice sounded a lot more polished than they were expecting before taking to Twitter to share their confusion.

One person wrote: ‘I genuinely have zero idea what kind of accent that is Donna Air! #shesageoride.’

Another said: ‘Where’s her Geordie accent gone? You’re a Northerner stop faking that pathetic accent.’

And a third added: ‘What’s happened to Donna Air’s accent? Why are you no longer a Geordie? I don’t even know where that accent is from.’

It’s not the first time the mother-of-one has been accused of changing her accent, having sparked a backlash when she appeared on Celebrity Masterchef in 2016.

Viewers claims that she’d ditched her Geordie tones for a plummy accent because of her relationship at the time with James Middleton, younger brother of the Duchess of Cambridge.

In an article for the Mail on Sunday, Donna tackled them head on, saying: ‘I’m an actress and a TV presenter: it’s my job to speak clearly, to communicate effectively on and off camera.

‘My home has been in London for 20 years now, longer than I lived in my native North East.

‘I think it would be far weirder if I sounded the same as the ten year-old Donna who starred in TV series Byker Grove asking PJ (Anthony McPartlin, now half of Ant and Dec) if he’d like to share a banana milk.’
