Family of father-of-five, 66, knocked down in hit-and-run release shocking photograph showing him lying in hospital with severe facial injuries as they appeal to find driver

The family of a father who was knocked down in a hit-and-run have released a shocking photograph of him lying with severe facial injuries in hospital as they make an emotional plea to find the driver responsible.
The appalling images show Robert Field, 66, with severe facial wounds after he was mowed down by a car at around 7pm on February 22.
The father-of-five was crossing the road when he was struck by a small dark blue car on Hoggs Lane, in Northfield, Birmingham.
The vehicle sped away from the scene leaving Mr Field stricken in the road as members of the public rushed to help him.

Mr Field was taken to hospital where he remains after suffering life-changing injuries due to the impact of the horror collision.
He has spent a week in intensive care and will need his lower leg amputated.
His children today shared a picture of their father’s injuries as they urged anyone with information to get in touch with police.
They said: ‘Our dad was involved in a hit and run in Northfield and his injuries included 10 fractures throughout his body, a brain bleed and an open fracture to his leg.
‘Doctors told us many times he’s lucky to still be alive.
‘During his time in the hospital dad has spent a week in intensive care and will be leaving with life-changing injuries, including the amputation of his lower leg.
‘Anyone who knows dad will understand the troubles he’s had with his knees and still maintained his independence and the ability to walk unaided.
‘This will now change and will include him spending time in a wheelchair, the fitting of a prosthetic and the physiotherapy required to learn to walk again.
‘Many people from Northfield will recognise dad’s face from over the many years he has lived here from a small lad.
‘He’s a lovely man who will do anything to help anyone and we are grateful for all the messages of support and love we have received from people.
‘Dad has five children and five grandchildren who are thankful that he’s still here for many years to come.
‘We urge anyone who may have noticed the slightest detail on that night to come forward and we will always be indebted to the people that stopped and helped him and have continued to message in support since.’
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police, said: ‘A wing mirror was recovered from the scene and we are appealing for anyone who saw a car matching the description, without a wing mirror after the collision, to contact us.
‘We are conducting CCTV enquiries and speaking to witnesses, however we are still appealing for information or anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV.
‘No matter how small you believe your information may be, it could hold vital information to help progress this investigation.’
