James Corden and Niall Horan pay homage to The Proclaimers in 500 Miles spoof


James Corden and Niall Horan channelled the iconic Scottish duo The Proclaimers in a hilarious spoof of The Late Late Show on Wednesday.

Donning oversized glasses and matching red wigs, the presenter, 41, and One Direction star, 26, paid homage to the iconic track I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) as they showed that it could be the answer to any kind of disaster.

The Proclaimers, formed of twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid, released their now-iconic 500 Miles song in 1988 and it has become a cult favourite after reaching number 11 in the UK charts.

The sketch opesn with police in the middle of a tense negotiation, as they try and convince a criminal to release his hostage unharmed.

After he refuses and drags the hostage into a towing office, the police decide it’s time to send in special measures – can call for The Proclaimers help.

Sporting matching red shirts, wigs and oversized wigs, James and Niall can then be seen walking up the street in The Proclaimers signature dance.

Singing the famous tune, James and Niall march into the office before the hostages and the criminal can be seen fleeing the scene in terror.

It seems the incredible catchy tune managed to drive away even the most hardened of criminals, and the police join James and Niall in dancing in victory.

Next ambulance staff are dealing with the fallout of a disastrous accident, as they try desperately to revive a man who is lying lifeless on a gurney.

Success! As the hostages and the criminal flee the scene, James and Niall emerge in victory before continuing to sing the song

To the rescue: Once again it's The Proclaimers to the rescue as they head over to try and save the man

Once again James and Niall are on the case and they march onto the scene belting out the signature tune.

The pair then do CPR on the patient to the beat of the song, and he springs into life to the delight of the paramedics.

James and Niall then join the patient in continuing the signature dance, hinting that all is now well with the help of the famous Scottish tune.

In the sketch’s final moments, James and Niall are drafted in to rescue a man who is threatening to jump from the edge of a building.

Despite police’s best efforts they’re unable to convince the man to come away from the edge, and so once again The Proclaimers swoop in to save the day.

James and Niall slowly edge across the building towards the man as they sing the 500 Miles theme tune and the man is convinced that his life is worth living.

The sketch then takes an even funnier turn when James and Niall accidentally fall from the building’s edge.

Luckily it seems that all is well as despite lying flat on the ground, as James and Niall flash a thumbs up before insisting they’re OK.

The sketch comes 32 years after the original 500 Miles single was released by The Proclaimers, and it has since become a staple in Scottish music.
