‘I ended up in the ER last night’: Dr Chris Brown updates fans on his condition and slams Bondi residents for avoiding social distancing advice

Dr Chris Brown was rushed to the emergency room on Sunday night.

The Bondi Vet star was treated for an ulcerated eye after coming into contact with a toxic substance while self-isolating at home in Sydney.  

He told Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa on Monday: ‘I was gardening and did a bit of pruning and didn’t realise I was pruning a highly toxic plant and it broke off at the stem and put sap into my eye.’

‘Sap from a toxic cactus ulcerated my cornea and I ended up in ER last night with an ulcerated eye,’ he explained.

Chris was upbeat despite the injury, joking with the radio hosts: ‘The only problem is when you’re in this self isolation period, you tend to take on little challenges around the house that you probably shouldn’t.

‘Stay in your lane, whatever you’re good at, just stick with that. Don’t try to diversify into other areas!’

As a longtime Bondi resident, he also expressed disappointment at how some locals and tourists have been behaving amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday, Bondi Beach was packed with beachgoers despite the government advising against mass gatherings to slow the spread of COVID-19.

‘It wasn’t a good look. I drove through Bondi, and it looked like a holiday resort, people were out at cafes, down at the beach, socialising. It was a very bad look.

‘And now it’s essentially been blamed for all these new rules,’ he said.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced stricter social distancing rules and on Sunday, including the closure of cafe and restaurant dining areas, pubs, clubs, cinemas and gyms. 

It follows a push for non-essential services to be shut down by the government to minimise the spread of coronavirus. 

As of Sunday night, there were 1,354 reported cases of coronavirus in Australia, including seven deaths.
