Ludicrously good value wines to kick off British Summer Time

British Summer Time kicks off today and there are plenty of wines to cool and crack. Even better, I’ve found bunches of them that are ludicrously good value. In the battle between Aldi and Lidl, Aldi’s wines have often sneaked victory.

Lidl has made headway in choosing off-the-beaten-track gems – grape varieties you rarely see, such as the German grape Scheurebe. If you like Pinot Grigio, run to Lidl and buy buckets of its cool pure Junge Winzer Grauburgunder 2018 (13.5%) for £7.99 – it’s the same grape as Pinot Grigio.

But for consistency, The Wine Society is excellent and will return, and look out for Majestic’s new range too. On the high street, the Co-Op, Waitrose and M&S are all aglow with liquid treasures.
