Modern Family ratings hit three year high with series finale with 7.43million viewers


Modern Family had its highest ratings in three years as millions of fans gathered around their televisions to say goodbye to the Dunphy And Pritchett families.

The ABC sitcom’s series finale aired on Wednesday night as it netted 7.43 million viewers according to Deadline.

Perhaps most impressively, the episode jumped to a 1.6 rating in the adults 18-49 key demographic, which was the show’s highest since the September 2018 season 10 premiere.

It was a big night on ABC as the series finale led into a special with behind-the-scenes footage titled A Modern Farewell which earned 6.72million viewers.

It was followed by castmember Eric Stonestreet’s appearance on the rebooted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, which netted 6.3million viewers.

As a result, ABC finished second overall in ratings and viewership. 

However, Modern Family and its network were bested by FOX’s Masked Singer.

The episode which revealed Kylie Jenner’s former BFF, Jordyn Woods, as the kangaroo netted a whopping 7.7million. 

Lego Masters which airs after The Masked Singer did a solid number at 3.9million. 

Regardless the story of the night was Modern Family which came to an end after 11 seasons and 250 episodes, and fans came out in droves to react on social media.

The show is considered by many to be one of the best sitcoms ever, winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for its first five seasons in a row.

Much like the Dunphy and Pritchett families on the show, fans reacted with a mixture of laughter and tears as the sitcom came to a close, with one person writing: ‘I am sobbing, thanks for the many years of laughter.’

The finale followed the entire Dunphy and Pritchett family as they all go their separate ways for the first time.

Cam (Eric Stonestreet) got his dream job in Missouri, leading Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and their two kids to move away from the home they’d just bought.

Before the family all went their separate ways, they all met at the Dunphy home to say goodbye, though it kept getting delayed due to Cam and Mitch’s flight being delayed to due biblical weather proportions, which one fan mentioned on social media.
