Kaitlyn Bristowe reveals her weight dropped to 93lbs after becoming addicted to Valium in late 20s

She found fame as ABC’s The Bachelorette.

But in her new web show 9 To Wine, Kaitlyn Bristowe revisited a darker time in her life following the breakup of her first big romance.

She shared that in her late 20s she suffered from such severe depression that she became addicted to Valium and her weight dropped to 93 pounds.

The Canada native explained that at 27, she moved back into her parent’s home after breaking up with a boyfriend with whom she’d been living in Germany.

She recalled feeling at the time that ‘I had nothing and that life was over for me, that I’d given up all my hopes and dreams, and that the love of my life was now gone.’ 

A doctor prescribed antidepressants and Valium, an anti-anxiety medication.

‘I had become addicted to Valium and I was about 93 lb and that is when somebody had to shake me and say you can’t live like this, this is not you,’ Bristowe shared.

As for the life lesson learned? 

‘I always think if I could go back to my 27-year-old self and talk to her, I would say, ‘You can’t let anyone be responsible for your own happiness. That is up to you,” she said.

Bristowe first found fame as a contestant on Chris Soules’s season of ABC’s The Bachelor.

She went on to become The Bachelorette for season 11 of the spin-off show.

In the season finale, she accepted a proposal from Shawn Booth and the two were together for three years before parting ways in November 2018.

A couple of months later, she started dating season 14 Bachelorette alum Jason and the couple live together in Nashville, Tennessee.
