Susanna Reid says she has remained teetotal while in lockdown

Susanna Reid revealed that she has remained teetotal while in lockdown.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 49, admitted on Wednesday’s edition of the show that being in lockdown helped to enforce her sobriety.

Having remained sober since September 2018, she proudly told co-host Piers Morgan: ‘I haven’t had a drink with lock down its enforced my teetotal.’

In contrast, Piers admitted that he probably has ‘a couple of glasses of wine a night’ and ‘couldn’t imagine having a day without wine.’

‘You can’t do anything. The days are too long,’ he said before clarifying: ‘I don’t sit on my own in the kitchen.’

Turning his attention to Susanna, Piers then joked: ‘No wonder you’re so miserable. Get a bottle of wine out the cellar and treat yourself.’

Susanna and Piers were divided after celebrity hairdresser Adee Phelan launched into a furious, expletive fuelled tirade on the show later that day.

Morgan, 55, refused to apologise after a colourful interview with Phelan regarding his efforts to help NHS workers during the ongoing coronavirus crisis, prompting Susanna to do it for him.

The big-hearted stylist, whose previous clients include David Beckham, has donated more than 94,000 boxes of hair products to frontline staff at a cost of £650,000.

But the 45-year old became increasingly irate as the discussion veered away from his charitable donations, and launched an extraordinary rant against the Tory leadership.

Appearing on the show remotely from Covent Garden, he barked: ‘It’s a disgrace, what’s happened in the government mate, it’s bulls**t, and Boris Johnson and the whole lot of them down there need to start treating us with a bit of respect, a bit of honesty and a bit of dignity.’

Phelan also lashed out at the government while reflecting on the Black Lives Matter protests being carried out in London, a reaction to the senseless killing of black man George Floyd by a white police officer in the United States on May 25th.

Susanna later ensured she apologised to any viewers offended by his ‘fruity language’ behalf before they went to a commercial break.

Susanna went on a a strict no-alcohol diet plan in September 2018 following a doctor’s warning over her BMI.

Speaking to The Daily Mail in September 2019, she said of her former habit: ‘I never drank when I was working, but, on nights off, I’d have a couple of glasses of wine.

‘And Piers and I would have these big nights out at the Groucho Club in Soho, which were wonderful.

‘But I haven’t done one of those since I stopped drinking. Basically, I’m a lot less fun now — as Piers tells me all the time.’

However earlier in the month, she admitted that she had fallen off the wagon during a boozy Ibiza trip with Judge Rinder, real name Robert Rinder, over the summer.

Susanna, who has lost almost two stone since ditching booze, said after being grilled by Piers: ‘I did fall off the wagon,’ to which Piers responded with: ‘Are you back on the lash?’

The presenter has also previously admitted in an interview that she had fallen off the wagon eight times since going teetotal.

‘It’s a bit like the end of a relationship when you’re not quite ready to say it’s really over. There are times you fall back into it. Each time, I regretted the alcohol. It either made me grouchy or took me days to recover,’ she said.
