That’s quick! Sonia Kruger reveals one contestant will be eliminated on the first night of Big Brother – ahead of the show’s premiere

Channel Seven is launching its revamped Big Brother series on Monday.

And on Thursday, host Sonia Kruger revealed that there will be an eviction each episode and one contestant will be eliminated on the first night of the show.

Speaking on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa, the 54-year-old said: ‘I was like ‘”how can we evict someone on the first night” but when you see it Fitzy it will all make sense.’

‘You used to have to wait a week to get to an eviction, so it just kind of rockets along which is great,’ she continued.

She went on to explain exactly how contestants are nominated for eviction and then eliminated.

Sonia said: ‘They compete in a challenge and whoever wins the challenge nominates three people and then those people scramble to try and secure their safety. Then the house votes and somebody goes home.’

‘The problem is two people don’t go home and they now know you nominated them,’ she explained.

She also described the audition process, revealing that a whopping 53000 people applied to be on the show, but just 20 were chosen.

Sonia joked that it’s like ‘getting a ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory really.’

The show was pre-recorded all throughout February and March in Sydney, and will have no public vote until the finale, which is believed to be the only live episode.

Speaking to Who magazine last month, Sonia said the show needed a contemporary update from what fans remembered 20 years ago.

‘Twenty years ago we would watch a housemate make a sandwich in the kitchen, and we thought that was amazing. But times have changed and our viewing habits have become more sophisticated,’ she explained.
