‘It has a special place in our home’: Jesinta Franklin shows off an Aboriginal artwork that was gifted to her after voicing her support for the Black Lives Matter movement

Jesinta Franklin has shown off a piece of Aboriginal art that was recently gifted to her by Indigenous artist Daisy Hill.

In a post on Instagram on Friday, the 28-year-old model thanked the talented artist for her ‘generous and thoughtful gift’.

‘”Walkabout Girl” by @daisy_in_dots. The most generous and thoughtful gift. Thank you for this beautiful artwork, it has a special place in our home,’ she captioned a series of photos of the work.

Jesinta revealed the artwork had found its pride of place above a wooden buffet in her home.

It comes after Jesinta voiced her support for the Black Lives Matter movement in a post on Instagram days earlier.

The model has been married to Indigenous footballer Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin since 2016, and the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Tullulah, in February.

Buddy, 33, also voiced his support for the Black Lives Matter movement in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, urging Australians to look locally, too.

‘Justice for all. What’s happening in the US is happening on our own soil and all around the world,’ he captioned an artwork reading ‘SUPPORT US WHEN IT’S NOT TRENDING’ written in the colours of the Aboriginal flag.

‘Thoughts and prayers are with George Floyd’s family and all affected by this tragedy and the tragedies before his murder.’

In a 2015 interview on Today, Jesinta said she was determined to raise her children with an understanding of their cultural background.

‘The reality is my children are going to be Indigenous, and we need to bring them up to have an appreciation of all cultures and the history and where it is that they come from and the adversity their culture has been through,’ she said at the time.

‘It’s about raising awareness and being inclusive and paying respect to the past but also making sure that we focus on a positive future so we can move forward and live as a happy nation.’
