Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters has died at age 69… as sister Anita asks fans for ‘prayers at this time’

Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters – a pop group whose hits included Fire, Slow Hand and I’m So Excited – has died at age of 69.

Her sister Anita confirmed the news to TMZ revealing that she died on Monday.

‘It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning,’ Anita told the outlet. ‘Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.’

The statement continued: ‘Bonnie was my best friend and we talked every day, we never had a fight in our life, I already miss her and I will see her again one day.’

The Grammy-winning singer’s career began in 1969 when she and her sister June began their band as a duo.

Later came their sisters Anita then Ruth.

They received their vocal training at their father’s church in West Oakland, California.

Their first hit was Yes We Can then came the song Fairytale. 

Bonnie left The Pointer Sisters in 1977 for a solo career that produced the hit disco cover of the song Heave Must Have Sent You.

In the 1990s and after she performed in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

In 1978, Bonnie married Motown Records producer Jeffrey Bowen. As of July 2014, after 10 years of separation, Bonnie filed for divorce which was finalized in 2016.

Her youngest sister June died in 2006 at the age of 52.

Two of her sisters, Ruth and Anita, and two brothers, Aaron and Fritz, were at her side at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica when she died.The type of cancer was not disclosed.
