Matt Preston admits he hasn’t watched an episode of MasterChef since being dumped

The ultimate snub? Matt Preston says he hasn’t watched an episode of MasterChef Australia since he was axed from the show last year

He was axed from MasterChef Australia last October after spending 11 years at the helm.

And Matt Preston has revealed that he hasn’t watched a single episode of the series since he left.

The 58-year-old celebrity chef made the shocking confession during an interview with Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa on Wednesday

‘No I haven’t,’ he told hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli when asked whether he’d been tuning in this season.

Matt was dumped alongside Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris, and replaced by the show’s new judges Andy Allen, Jock Zonfrillo and Melissa Leong.

‘You’re a dog, mate!’ Fitzy jokingly exclaimed.

Matt went on to explain he still had many friends who worked on the Channel 10 program, so he wanted it to continue to do well.

‘MasterChef employs 120 people down in Melbourne. It’s really important that those people have a job,’ he said.

The cookbook author went on to explain that he is current focussing on his upcoming projects, including Channel Seven’s new reality show Plate of Origin.

‘I’m in the beautiful position of being an old man with a new job which is unbelievable!’ the former Nine star said of his new gig at rival network Seven.

Matt and his former MasterChef co-star Gary jumped ship to Seven after their stalled contract negotiations with Channel 10 saw them dumped alongside George in October.

The duo will pair up with My Kitchen Rules star Manu Fieldel for a new cooking program called Plate of Origin.

The show will see cooks from diverse cultural backgrounds compete to see which of their chosen cuisines is the best.

Matt isn’t the only Masterchef judge who can’t bring himself to watch the new series.

In April, Gary admitted to Daily Mail Australia that he also hadn’t been watching the popular show since his departure.

‘I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched the new MasterChef, but then again I never watched MasterChef when I was in it. I was there after all,’ he began.

‘With [executive producer] Marty Benson and the team behind the show, it can’t be anything else but great television.’
