  • Mrs. Van Der Beek was at at 17 weeks, putting her at the start of her second trimester
  • The spouses of ten years endured their second recent miscarriage, following a ‘very public miscarriage last November’ 
  • Kimberly was rushed to the hospital by ambulance for a ‘harrowing night of blood transfusions’

James Van Der Beek and his wife Kimberly have suffered another heartbreaking miscarriage at 17 weeks. 

‘After suffering a brutal, very public miscarriage last November, we were overjoyed to learn we were pregnant. This time, we kept the news to ourselves,’ the 43-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum shared in an emotional Instagram post on Saturday.   

Tragically, he revealed ‘the soul we’d been excited to welcome into the world had lessons for our family that did not include joining us in a living physical body.’

While mourning their loss of their expectant sixth child, Kimberly was rushed to the hospital by ambulance ‘for another harrowing night of blood transfusions.’ 

‘I stood by, grateful for the good people who navigated the maze of regulations to save her life,’ the actor said of the hospital workers, before describing he felt ‘helpless.’ 

As he tried to provide the mother-of-five comfort by massaging her feet and keeping her warm, he was struck by the thought, ‘We’ve got to take better care of each other.’

‘The world is in pain right now. There’s denial, shock, numbness, anger – all the old patterns we cling to when deep trauma is unearthed,’ he noted to his followers, before urging them to ask themselves the same question. 

He concluded: ‘To all the families who have gone through this… you are not alone.’  

The actor and his spouse of ten years share children Olivia, nine, Joshua, eight, Annabel, six, Emilia, four, and two-year-old Gwendolyn.

During their last miscarriage, he was largely in the public eye on the 28th season of Dancing With The Stars. 

At the time, Kimberly urged him to keeping dancing on ABC’s dance competition. 

‘My wife Kimberly went through every expectant parent’s worst nightmare – we lost the baby,’ he told fans on the program. ‘The little soul that we had expected to welcome in our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond.’

In December, he opened up more about their loss, which he explained they had previously endured, but ‘never this late in the pregnancy’ or at the risk of Kimberly’s ‘well-being.’  

A month prior to his post, his wife shared that in less than 48 hours she lost their baby boy and nearly her life. 

Van Der Beek shot to fame playing Dawson Leery on the WB series, which also featured Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams. He’s also been seen in Varsity Blues, One Tree Hill and CSI: Cyber.
