David ‘Kochie’ Koch shocks Sunrise cast as he makes a playful jab about Sam Armytage’s new fiancé on live TV
Sunrise host Samantha Armytage, 43, announced her engagement to equestrian businessman Richard Lavender, 60, over the weekend.
And on Tuesday, Samantha’s co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch took a playful jab at her fiancé on the live breakfast program.
Kochie, 64, joked that Richard was ‘punching well above [his] weight’.

The Sunrise stars first addressed the exciting news at 6am, but Kochie continued to pester Sam with a series of awkward questions about the proposal during the show.
Kochie, and the rest if the Sunrise cast and crew, congratulated Sam on her happy news on the show and presented her with a large floral bouquet.
‘Rich, congratulations big fella! You are punching well above your weight,’ Kochie joked in the closing moments of the show.
Sam laughed off the comment, but sports reporter Mark Beretta and news journalist Natalie Barr reacted in shock with their jaws dropping.
Sam had proudly flaunted her diamond ring to viewers earlier in the program, which is estimated to be worth close to $80,000.

However, during Tuesday’s Sunrise broadcast, Sam confirmed that Richard had actually proposed ‘a few weeks ago’.
The horse breeder had popped the question while they were picking firewood and pulling weeds in their paddock, she added.

Rather than ask ‘Will you marry me?’, Richard had apparently said: ‘How about it?’
The couple, who reportedly began dating in April 2019, confirmed their romance in an interview with WHO magazine November.
They had sparked engagement rumours in September, when they were spotted shopping for expensive jewellery in Sydney’s Double Bay.
