The Voice coach Delta Goodrem changes song choice at last minute

‘It’s definitely a risk’: The Voice coach Delta Goodrem resorts to changing Jesse Teinaki and Steve Clisby’s song at the LAST MINUTE in the battles – as Steve remarks he felt ‘kind of stupid’

The Voice’s Delta Goodrem made a gamble during Sunday’s episode of the battles.

After noticing Steve Clisby struggling during rehearsal alongside Jesse Teinaki with the lyrics to Halsey’s Without Me, Delta changed their song at the very last minute.

‘There’s definitely a risk in it,’ the 35-year-old coach admitted to a producer.

Watching Steve struggle to remember the lyrics during the crucial dress rehearsal, Delta pulled the show’s executive producer aside, suggesting they ‘try another song’.

‘Let’s just try another song, let’s just try it,’ she told a shocked Steve and Jesse.

Delta later admitted in a piece to camera that there’s a risk in changing the song choice at the very last minute.

‘This is my heavyweight battle and these are two artists I emotionally connect to,’ the songstress said.

And when quizzed by the producer on whether it’s a gamble, she said: ‘There’s definitely a risk in it.’

‘Changing the song at the very last minute puts extra pressure on both Steve and Jesse, it’s going to be really tough,’ she added.

Steve also admitted in a piece to camera that he ‘felt kind of stupid’ during rehearsal as he wasn’t ‘that familiar’ with the song.

Delta ended up choosing Human by Rag’n’Bone Man for Steve and Jesse.

Jesse was the standout, with Delta choosing him to progress to the playoffs.

‘They are without a doubt in the right place at the right time,’ Delta said of Jesse before making the announcement.

Before doing so however, fellow coach Guy Sebastian wasn’t shy in critiquing Steve’s performance.

‘Steve, it was really messy,’ he said. ‘I was so stressed at the start I was like, “What’s going on? What’s happening? He’s forgotten [the lyrics], he can’t hear the time”.

‘And then there were some lyric issues, so I would say as a battle it just felt a little bit disjoined.’

In a shock twist, Delta ended up using her last save to ensure Steve progressed.

The Voice continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
