He certainly did that, with Guy describing his rendition of the song as a ‘gift’.

‘I’ve enjoyed singing that [song] Johnny for the last couple of years, I really have,’ Guy said after the performance.

‘We’ve seen you deliver a power ballad, and it really is a case of whatever you sing Johnny, it’s going to be silly.’

Guy went on to reveal his personal struggles, saying: ‘To have you sing that song… that was a song that I wrote in a particularly tough and vulnerable time.

‘So after you sung it [during rehearsals], I actually went home. On my drive home, I just burst into tears. So to hear you sing it, is just like “wow”. It’s just a gift.’

Johnny revealed on stage how the song resonates with him.

‘This song speaks to me because I have been fighting for a very long time to make this dream happen. So it meant a lot to me, and it still does,’ he said.

Before I Go is a powerful ballad about overcoming hardships and rising up against bullies.

The pop track centres around self-belief and taking control of your own destiny, regardless of limitations people or objects place in your way.

The Voice Australia continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
