13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford wows in glam magazine images shot on her iPHONE

She shot to worldwide fame through her starring role in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and she’s braced for more success with her upcoming fantasy show Cursed.

But Katherine Langford has admitted that she struggled with her own identity when growing up, because she was a ‘nerd’ who didn’t fit in.

The Australian actress, 24, opened up about her growing pains in GLAMOUR UK’s July digital issue – which saw the star posed in shots taken on her own iPhone.

Speaking of her younger years, she said: ‘I didn’t know where I fitted in and that was a big thing for me, I could do sport but then I was also “girly”, and I liked makeup, but I didn’t want to be a part of that popular girl group, and I was also a nerd.

‘I remember we had this “girls’ magazine”, and they would have pictures of celebrities with a quote. There was a picture of Scarlett Johansson who was saying something along the lines of like, “Just be yourself.”

‘I was 12 years old, and I looked at this and I just went, “But who am I? Tell me who I’m supposed to be. Should I dress like this and then I’m that person?”‘

As for how she sees herself now, the brunette beauty admitted: ‘I still feel like I don’t know 100% who I am, and I don’t want to put labels on myself because we put labels on things to make them easier to digest.

‘I still feel restless but in a good way because to hell with that, f**k it, I’ll make my own box.’

And while Katherine has been named the new L’Oreal Paris ambassador, the screen star has admitted that she found makeup ‘intimidating’ when she was younger.

She told GLAMOUR UK: ‘When I was younger, beauty or being beautiful equated to looking like someone else. I think I felt a little bit intimidated by makeup, because my mom didn’t wear a lot and I didn’t wear a lot because of sport.

‘So sometimes beauty felt very oppressive and to be able to see it as something expressive and freeing was just so liberating.’

Since finding screen success, Katherine has found herself enjoying the perks that come with her career – including being welcomed into the fold by some of the world’s biggest stars.

She said: ‘My first ever Golden Globes nomination came at the time of the Time’s Up movement. Reese Witherspoon reached out to me and we chatted on the phone. I thought, “Oh my gosh, this person wants to welcome me in.”

‘We had a meeting the day before and I walked into this room of 25 of the most experienced actresses, I felt very starstruck but at the same time I also felt very welcomed.

‘I got a bit teary when I was talking to some of them, because, especially growing up in this industry, you hear these things like, “Women are this way, women are that way,” and it just felt so far from the truth.

‘To realise that we don’t actually need to compete – we’re such an indomitable force together when we truly support each other and stand together, it only serves to lift all of us up!’

As well as posing for self portraits for her GLAMOUR UK shoot, Katherine also did her own makeup under the guidance of L’Oréal Paris global makeup director Val Garland.

The cover shot saw the Perth native posing with her back to the camera as she looked over her shoulder while donning a red sequinned top.

In another snap, she wowed once again in a shimmering blue sequinned top with a beaded neckline and cuffs, which matched her large hoop earrings.
