Former Home and Away star Olivia Deeble has experienced plenty of ups and downs in the entertainment industry.

Olivia, who played Raffy Morrison on Home and Away from 2016 to 2019, said the soap was one of just three roles she landed after more than 60 unsuccessful auditions.

‘I have gone for a lot of auditions in my career. I’d say sixty-ish. And that’s not counting short films or commercials. I have only landed three of those. Admittedly, Little Lunch, Home and Away and Secret Society of Second-Born Royals were a great three to get!’ she said.

Olivia added that rejection was just part of being a working actor.

When asked for her advice on standing out at auditions, she said: ‘Come prepared, know your lines, make strong choices and do backstory work.

‘Be yourself when you first meet everyone. The casting directors actually really want you to do well and are on your side.’

Authenticity is equally important when it comes to social media, but that sometimes means having to deal with trolls.

‘I haven’t received a whole lot of hate. When I do, however, I just delete the comment or will block people if they’re being particularly aggressive. I think it’s so cowardly to comment something mean about how someone looks or their acting work,’ she said.

‘People who do it can be insecure and not able to assess what is actually going on with themselves, so why give them the time to affect you?’

While she can’t be in America due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Olivia has been busy recently auditioning for Hollywood roles via Zoom from Australia.

‘I got the Disney movie [Secret Society of Second-Born Royals] last year via self-tape without setting foot in the U.S., so it happens! Moving to LA is certainly on the cards… as to when? It all depends on when restrictions are lifted!’ she said.

‘I am really proud of this documentary series. It gives young people a real look into how I started and advice on how to get into the industry,’ she added.

The episodes will cover everything from Olivia’s own acting training, to how to secure an agent and manage your own personal brand.
