Dennis Quaid says ‘animal abuse’ scandal on his 2017 movie A Dog’s Purpose ‘was a scam’

Dennis Quaid has channeled his love of animals into his new podcast The Pet Show, which launched this week.

And the two-time Golden Globe nominee used the first episodes to address a scandal from his 2017 film A Dog’s Purpose.

He said that accusations of animal abuse on the set of the film, which ultimately forced them to cancel the red carpet premiere, were ‘a scam.’

It’s a scam: Dennis Quaid said during the launch of his podcast The Pet Show that accusations of animal abuse on the set of his 2017 film A Dog’s Purpose were ‘a scam’

The 66-year-old was referring to a video released through TMZ back in January of 2017, just days before the premiere, which appeared to show the German Shepherd named Hercules resisting during a scene in the water.

He recounted: ‘What happened was the dog jumps into the water … there were divers, scuba divers, three of them, underneath the water.

‘One of the trainers reached down to give the dog a rest, and he pulled him up, and it looks like he’s pulling him up and choking him by the collar.’

Quaid added: ‘What it doesn’t show, is that there’s a table right below the dog, so the dog can rest his feet on the table. He’s not just being held up.’

He also responded to a video that showed Hercules struggling to get out of the pool, before sinking below the water, recalling that the dog ‘goes under, and that’s where the guy cuts.’

‘Well there were two divers waiting for him right there, it wasn’t even a second and a half. They lifted him up, handed him to the trainer right by the pool and the dog didn’t even wait to get a collar on, he ran right to the other side of the pool to do it again. He loved it.’

Quaid secretly tied the knot with girlfriend Laura Savoie, 27, on June 2 in Santa Barbara.

The lovebirds had only their pastor as their witness for the secret nuptials, according to People.

Quaid, who has previously been married three times, said: ‘Love just has a way of surprising you’ while speaking the magazine last month.

Dennis and Laura, a doctoral student, met at a business event and started dating in May 2019. In October 2019, five months after they began dating, the lovebirds got engaged.

He called meeting her ‘love at first sight.’

And the movie star spoke out about their 39-year age difference saying, ‘It really just doesn’t come up. There’s just something timeless about us. We’re partners in our relationship and in life. It’s love. And love just has a way of surprising you.’
