TV ratings prove Big Brother reboot was an epic success with fans

Big Brother is a ratings success as the viewing figures for the last episode are FINALLY revealed after data company Nielsen was hit by a cyber attack

A suspected cyber attack on the Nielsen Data Centre delayed the delivery of TV ratings for Big Brother Australia last week.

And now a week after Seven’s reboot crowned Chad Hurst as its winner, the network are no doubt celebrating for a second time.

Figures released on Thursday by Nielsen and OzTAM prove Big Brother was a huge success with viewers – and even helped the network break records.

Big Brother was Seven’s biggest entertainment show of 2020 so far, and its biggest reality show in two years, according to TV Blackbox.

The live studio finale, which broadcast on Wednesday July 22, averaged 1.13 million viewers nationally (876,000 in five-city metro), and its last episode on Tuesday July 21 averaged 1.19 million nationally (832,000 in five-city metro).

It went up against Channel 10’s Bachelor In Paradise on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the dating series secured less than 500,000 five-city metro viewers on each night.

Seven’s Network Programming Director Angus Ross told TV Blackbox: ‘We were confident that Big Brother would deliver massive audiences in the key demos, particularly 25-54s, and the ratings released today confirm it.’

‘Big Brother has shifted our audience, being instrumental to us winning all key demos the last seven weeks in a row. It’s also been the foundation of 7plus breaking records, now winning 15 weeks in a row as the top CFTA BVOD service. We’re just getting started and we’ve got plenty more wins to come,’ he added.

BVOD stands for broadcaster video on demand, which encompasses Seven’s digital streaming service, 7plus.

The data claimed 7plus saw almost 290 million minutes streamed for Big Brother Australia, with it becoming the top show on BVOD across its entire run.
