The Bachelor star Zoe-Clare McDonald had a bizarre meltdown during Wednesday’s season premiere because she was the ‘only redhead’ in the mansion.

And now it’s been revealed that the 23-year-old self-declared ‘oppressed ranga’ hasn’t always had flame-coloured locks.

Zoe-Clare was once a bottle blonde, and looks remarkably different with lighter hair.

She dyed her hair in early 2018 and posted numerous pictures of herself on Instagram at the time.

But her walk on the lighter side only lasted a year, as she reverted to her natural colour in March 2019. 

Fans flocked to social media on Wednesday, saying they couldn’t believe that Zoe-Clare was once a blonde.

During Wednesday night’s premiere, Zoe-Clare went into a rage after Areeba Emmanuel, 25, interrupted her discussion with Locky Gilbert.

‘To me, it’s disrespectful. If she wants to act the child, that’s fine,’ she told producers.

She continued: ‘I’m the only redhead in the whole entire house… The only colours are blonde or brunette, and then there’s me. I think that’s exactly why Areeba is targeting me. It’s the red hair. It’s just…it’s not appropriate.

‘What’s wrong with a ranga? Yeah. Do you want me to dye my hair every 10 seconds because you don’t like my colour? I’m so sorry, but this is natural, guys. It’s not going anywhere.’

Her tearful monologue confused many viewers because nobody had mentioned the colour of her hair.

Later in the episode, Zoe-Clare became ‘ill’ and was forced to skip the rose ceremony, but received a rose from Locky nonetheless.
